Marks & Spencer opened its first store in India in 2001 and in April 2008 got into a JV with Reliance retail to form Marks & Spencer Reliance India Pvt Ltd. M&S currently has 23 stores located in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Amritsar, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. Marks & Spencer is known for its high quality, great value and innovative products. As a well-established retailer in the UK, many shoppers in India are already aware of the business and what Marks & Spencer stands for. The focus is to offer new innovative products at great value prices which the consumers in India appreciate.

The overall brand strategy is to grow the customer base by increasing the brand awareness in India by opening more stores to expand the footprint and continue to delight the existing and new customers by offering high levels of service and great quality products.
